Expt 2: Characterization of Laminar Premixed Flame using Chemiluminescence Sensor

Test Details

  • Chemiluminescence signatures of OH* and CH*.

  • Determination of marker for equivalence ratio.

  • Determination of marker for flame temperature.

CH* chemiluminescence and flame temperature

  • CH* intensity and temperature variations with equivalence ratio are similar.

  • However, CH* and temperature peaks do not occur at same equivalence ratio.

  • Hence, CH* might not be a good marker for flame temperature.

OH* chemiluminescence and flame temperature

  • OH* intensity and temperature variations with equivalence ratio are similar.

  • Further, OH* and temperature peaks occur at nearly same equivalence ratio.

  • Hence, OH* is a good marker for flame temperature.

OH* intensity-flame temperature correlation

  • OH* intensity normalized using its peak value and temperature variations are correlated using the following expression (R2 = 0.97).

  • The correlation is based on data obtained for ? = 0.85-1.35.
